Things to do in Austin: August Round-Up
The month of hot temperatures, a new school year, and even more adventures! Here is August’s Round-Up of 10 fun things I did around Austin that I think you should try out too!
Coffee from Morning Bird
Located in the new Downright Hotel near downtown, lies an adorable, retro pink coffee shop. It is the perfect stop to get some work done, catch up with friends, or have a reading date with yourself. They have a selection of specialty lattes along with tasty matchas and food items.
Hike through Onion Creek
If you like hiking McKinney Falls but you don’t like the crowds or having to pay to get in, I suggest hiking Onion Creek. They share the same waters and greenery. It is doggie friendly and you will see lots of them throughout the area.
The best part is that there is clear refreshing water that you can go into. Visitors can hike, bike, fish, and enjoy the natural scenery. The area also features a swimming hole and a picnic area. Onion Creek is a great place to escape the hustle and bustle of the city and connect with nature.
Grab Mini Pancakes from Sweet Bites
Like the food trucks in Austin? Like pancakes? Well this is for you! Located in the food truck park off of Colton Bluff Springs, is Sweet Bites which has the most delicious little pancakes ever. You can basically customize them however you want - bananas, neutella, powdered sugar, blueberries…you get the idea! They also sell delicious Aguas Frescas.
Coffee Truck, Cenizo
In the same food truck park as Sweet Bites is the coffee truck, Cenizo! Talk about a tasty cup of Joe! Cenizo is a popular coffee shop in Austin, Texas, known for its high-quality specialty coffee and cozy atmosphere. They offer a variety of handcrafted beverages, including lattes, cappuccinos, and cold brews, made with ethically sourced beans. Cenizo also has a selection of pastries and other treats to complement your coffee. It's a great place to relax, work,or meet up with friends.
New Coffee Shop, Neighbourhood Cafe
Continuing on with coffee stops this month, I also went and checked out the brand new coffee shop on 6th street called Neighbourhood Cafe. It is so darling and cozy and one of my new favorite spots to read in Austin. This spot is a sister location of the one in Belfast - a little piece of Europe in Austin.
Eat at Nervous Charlie’s Bagels
I loooove bagels and luckily, Austin is home to a lot of delicious bagel spots. Nervous Charlie's Bagels is a beloved local spot known for its delicious, freshly baked bagels. They offer a wide variety of bagel flavors, as well as a tempting selection of cream cheese spreads, schmears, and toppings. Whether you're craving a classic bagel with butter or a more adventurous combination, Nervous Charlie's has something to satisfy your bagel cravings. I personally love the turkey/apple combo in The Big Apple.
DIY the day away at The Art Garage
Calling all crafters, this spot is great! The Art Garage in Austin is a creative hub where you can unleash your inner artist. Whether you're a seasoned painter or a beginner, this studio offers a variety of art classes, workshops, and drop-in sessions. You can choose from pottery painting, mosaic art, fused glass, and more. It's a fun and relaxing place to explore your artistic side and create one-of-a-kind pieces.
Get a Drink From ATX Milk & Tea
ATX Milk & Tea is a popular spot in Austin known for its delicious and customizable bubble tea. With a variety of tea bases, toppings, and sweetness levels, you can create your perfect drink. They also offer other beverages like milk tea lattes and fruit teas. It's a great place to grab a refreshing drink on a hot day or enjoy a sweet treat with friends.
Champions Westlake Gymnastics - OpenGym
We are in the time of the olympics, which made me want to try out tumbling at a local gym and this is the perfect spot! You can do a drop-in adults only class where you can learn about tumbling. All levels welcome.
It’s also a popular destination for kids and families in the Westlake area. This facility offers open gym sessions where children can explore and have fun on various gymnastics equipment, including bars, beams, rings, and trampolines. It's a great place for kids to develop their coordination, strength, and flexibility in a safe and supervised environment.
