What to do in Austin Today: Books, Wine, Comedy.

Seeking that unique Austin experience, the kind that'll have you feeling like a true local aficionado? You're in the right place because I've got you covered! Today, we're venturing to the East side of Austin, where we'll satisfy our taste buds with tacos, explore the unique blend of a wine bar and bookstore, and wrap up the evening with some belly shaking laughter. This adventure promises to give you a full taste of Austin, making you the ultimate Austinite and earning you heaps of admiration from friends or a special date. 😉

Indulge in the best combo at Vintage Books & Wine

Let's kick off our adventure with a visit to a truly remarkable gem: the captivating fusion of a bookstore and wine bar called Vintage Books & Wine. This unique venue finds its home within the historic 142-year-old Haehnel building, which has been transformed into a thriving local hotspot for gatherings and good times.

As you step inside, you'll be impressed by the building's charming character, where every nook and cranny exudes a cozy, welcoming aesthetic, complete with an variety of inviting seating options. Whether you're in the mood for an intimate corner or a communal space, the choice is yours – just select your room, find your ideal seat, and settle in for an experience like no other. And, of course, don't forget to check out their extensive bar selection; it's no wonder this place has earned the fitting nickname of "Austin's Living Room."

Grab some grub at Tacos Juanita

Continuing our journey, we're taking a stroll down the street to satisfy the taco cravings (I’m sure you have because you’re in Austin) at the beloved Tacos Juanita. This local treasure is a hidden gem tucked away on East 6th that has remained Austin's best-kept secret.

When it comes to burritos, trust me, Tacos Juanita sets the gold standard in Austin. The authentic flavors with their sauces, chips, and salsa are nothing short of exceptional.

Tacos Juanita operates out of a food truck, keeping it quick and casual. While you won’t find AC and an aesthetic restaurant, you will find its affordability and deliciousness, making it our go-to spot whenever we're in the mood for something flavorful, quick, and true to its roots.

Laugh the night away at East Austin Comedy Club

Last but certainly not least, we're rounding off our night at the East Austin Comedy Club, a cozy and intimate venue that promises an evening filled with laughter and delightful surprises.

Although this venue looks like an abandoned, worn down junk yard, once you open the hidden door to the venue, you’ll be delighted with the coziness it offers. It’s the definition of a wonky Austin establishment. Seating is limited, enhancing the sense of closeness, and if you're lucky, you might catch the bartender whipping up some homemade snacks! It makes it easy to chat with those sitting around you and creates a fun, warm atmosphere.

Plus, you’ll find every act a little bit funnier because they offer complimentary wine to set the mood just right. The lineup features a succession of talented comedians, each with sets ranging from 5 to 15 minutes, and let me tell you, I am not typically a fan of stand up but a majority of acts were great! The entire show lasts for about two hours so you are sure to get more than enough laughs.

When it comes to combining humor and heartwarming camaraderie, this club takes the cake, and it's well worth every penny (and that penny is only $10-$20).
